Nepal Gen Z Protest LIVE Updates: Army Takes Charge Of Security As PM KP Sharma Oli Resigns

Nepal Protest News LIVE: KP Sharma Oli resigned as Prime Minister on Tuesday following violent protests triggered by a ban on major social media platforms and anger over corruption. At least 19 people were killed and hundreds were injured in the deadly clash between the forces and the demonstrators, mostly youths leading what came to be called the “Gen Z” movement.

Despite the government rolling back the ban, protests intensified on Tuesday, with angry protestors attacking and injuring Nepalese leaders.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Army on Wednesday said it had arrested 26 people accused of looting and vandalism during the ongoing youth-led protests, as part of a special security operation launched to curb the ongoing unrest. The crackdown followed the Nepal Army’s takeover of national security responsibilities from 10 pm on Tuesday.

The Nepali Army appealed to citizens to stay alert and cooperate with security forces to help preserve order. Amid a surge in misinformation on social media, authorities also cautioned citizens against spreading unverified or exaggerated claims and stressed the importance of relying on credible sources.
