For hundreds of foreign travelers stranded at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, the Department of Immigration has introduced temporary measures to simplify the visa and departure procedures.

The Himalayan Times quoted officials as saying that foreign nationals whose visas were valid through September 8 can now obtain exit permits and visa regularisation without any extra fees, either at immigration offices or directly at departure points.

Besides, arrangements have also been made for visa transfers for foreigners who lost their passports during the protests, the officials said.

Travelers carrying an emergency passport or other travel documents issued by their embassy will have their visas transferred to the new document under existing rules, The Himalayan Times reported.

The protests started on September 8 in Kathmandu and spread to cities like Pokhara, Butwal and Birgunj. Thousands of demonstrators stormed parliament, forcing the prime minister to resign, while arson attacks targeted government buildings, offices, luxury hotels, and elite residences.

Meanwhile, the political crisis in Nepal persists as the nation continues to search for an interim Prime Minister following the Gen-Z protests that toppled KP Sharma Oli’s government.
