The Israeli Air Force on Tuesday launched strikes Yemen’s Houthi-controlled Hodeidah port.

Following an evacuation warning, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had struck “a military infrastructure site belonging to the Houthi terrorist regime at the Hodeida port in Yemen”. They said that the port was being used “for the transfer of weapons supplied by the Iranian regime, in order to execute attacks against Israel and its allies”.

The Times of Israel quoted Defense Minister Israel Katz as saying that the strike on Hodeida Port was aimed at continuing “the naval and aerial blockade on the Houthi terror organization.”

Following the attack, Houthi spokesperson Yayha Saree posted on X: “Our air defences are currently confronting the Israeli aircrafts that are launching an aggression against our country.”

In a post on X, the Israel Defence Forces said: “Sirens sounding across central Israel due to a Houthi projectile.”

Israel intensified its attacks on Yemen over the last month by striking country’s capital, Sanaa, and adjoining Jawf province.

The Hindustan Times quoted Houthi-run health ministry as stating that the attack led to the deaths of 46 people, injuring more than 160 others. The attacks were in response to the Houthi rebels’ drone attack which struck an Israeli airport.

In one of the strikes, Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi was killed. The strikes also targeted top military officials, including the Houthi Defence Minister.

The Houthis have repeatedly attacked Israel since the Gaza war began and have targeted ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden that they allege are connected to Israel. The rebel group controls large parts of Yemen, which has been gripped by war since 2014, and is part of Iran’s so-called Axis of Resistance.
