Fresh concerns have emerged from Adiala Jail as Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi allege they are facing inhumane conditions behind bars. In a series of statements and accounts shared by close sources, the couple has described incidents of mistreatment, inadequate medical response, and continued isolation.

Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned in Rawalpindi since last year, reaffirmed his resilience despite the circumstances. “Have no fear — your captain is still standing tall with his head held high,” he conveyed, signaling that prison hardships have not broken his spirit. However, he also confirmed on X that he has once again been placed under complete isolation, with meetings with his wife, family, and legal team suspended without clear justification.

Bushra Bibi, meanwhile, is reported to have suffered an electric shock inside her cell, according to sources familiar with the matter. In another disturbing account, she was said to have sustained visible wounds after being bitten by insects in her confinement. Despite her condition, claims suggest that the jail administration denied her first aid, intensifying concerns about the lack of medical care available to her.

Bushra Bibi has also accused the authorities of subjecting her to degrading and inhumane treatment. Imran Khan has echoed these concerns, asserting that his wife’s condition reflects a broader pattern of deliberate neglect and harassment.

These allegations add to the growing debate around prison conditions and political victimisation in Pakistan. While the jail administration has denied charges of mistreatment, the accounts shared by Khan and his family paint a troubling picture of custodial standards at one of the country’s most high-profile detention facilities.

Supporters of Khan argue that the suspension of family and lawyer meetings violates his basic rights as a prisoner. Human rights advocates, meanwhile, stress that regardless of political differences, detainees are entitled to safety, dignity, and medical care.

As Khan and Bushra continue to raise their voices from within Adiala Jail, their claims highlight the deepening divide between the government narrative and the opposition’s account of custodial treatment.
