In a shocking incident, two women hurled eggs at former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khanum, in Rawalpindi.

The incident took place outside Adiala Jail, where a hearing for the Toshakhana case had taken place earlier in the day. She was addressing the reporters when she was struck with an egg.

The incident was caught on camera, and the video is circulating widely on social media, showing Khanum reacting calmly but visibly shocked.

As per the visuals shared on social media platforms, the egg hit Khanum on her face before falling on her clothes. A woman at the scene can be heard shouting, “Who the hell is this?” and “Kisne kiya yeh (Who did this).”

Rawalpindi Police later held two women for the act. According to police, the women were reportedly Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters. The egg was thrown after Khanum allegedly dodged a question posed to her by journalists.

The incident has drawn criticism from multiple quarters, including Barrister Gohar Khan, who condemned the act and emphasised that the family should be provided security to prevent such incidents in the future.

Netizens React

Several users on X denounced the attack.

One X user wrote, “We strongly condemn this act. Such behavior is not only unethical but also unfortunate, as it turns political disagreements into insults and attacks. Differences of opinion are one thing, but civility and respect should never be abandoned.”

Another user commented, “This disgraceful act is by Asim Munir and the Noon League; these people are extremely afraid of Khan and his family.”

The former Prime Minister has been accused of misusing his 2018-2022 prime ministership to unlawfully buy and sell gifts kept inside the Toshakhana, or treasure house – a government-owned department.

The Toshakhana stores gifts received by prime ministers, presidents, ministers, members of parliament and government officials. Khan was sentenced to three years in prison in August 2023 for selling state gifts worth more than 140 million Pakistani rupees ($500,000).
