Artificial Intelligence continues to upgrade almost every workplace across the globe. While the companies and organisations have increased their AI dependency, several have lost their jobs to AI. Amid the ongoing transition, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman named a few professions that will be taken over by AI.

Speaking on The Tucker Carlson Show, Altman said customer service jobs are among the first to be replaced by AI. “I’m confident that a lot of current customer support that happens over a phone or computer, those people will lose their jobs, and that’ll be better done by an AI,” Altman said.

Moving forward, he said the programmers would also possibly lose their jobs to AI. “This is going to be like a punctuated equilibria moment where a lot of that will happen in a short period of time,” Altman said.

Altman further said AI-powered systems will be able to do customer service jobs better and more efficiently. However, he also noted that customer support also requires human judgment or personal verification and these segments will require human presence.

He further spoke about programming jobs and said the long-term impact of AI on programmers remain uncertain. “A job that I feel way less certain about what the future looks like for is computer programmers,” he said. “The meaning of being a computer programmer today is very different than it was two years ago. You’re able to use these AI tools to be hugely more productive.”
