The House Oversight Committee on Tuesday night released a trove of documents related to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, totalling nearly 34,000 pages. The documents, provided by the Department of Justice (DOJ), include a wide range of materials such as court filings, flight logs, jail surveillance footage, memos, and a transcript of the DOJ’s interview with Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, CNN reports.

Among the files are also videos that appear to show the interior of Epstein’s Palm Beach estate, along with redacted records and depositions from previous court proceedings. The release follows a subpoena issued earlier this summer.

“On August 5, Chairman Comer issued a subpoena for records related to Mr. Jeffrey Epstein, and the Department of Justice has indicated it will continue producing those records while ensuring the redaction of victim identities and any child sexual abuse material,” the Oversight Committee said in a public statement announcing the release.

The document release comes shortly after the DOJ made public audio files and a transcript of Maxwell’s interview. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in facilitating Epstein’s sex trafficking operation.

Despite the volume of materials released, Democrats on the committee have pushed back, claiming the records offer little new information. “After careful review, Oversight Democrats have found that 97% of the documents received from the Department of Justice were already public. There is no mention of any client list or anything that improves transparency or justice for victims,” said Representative Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the committee.

In addition to the files, the DOJ also released redacted surveillance footage from the federal jail where Epstein died in 2019. A July DOJ memo, released earlier this year, reiterated that Epstein died by suicide and stated there was “no foul play,” calling the so-called “Epstein File” a hoax pushed by Democrats.

President Donald Trump had pledged during his campaign to release all Epstein-related records if elected. However, the Trump administration later faced criticism for failing to fulfil that promise.

Just hours before the release, members of the House Oversight Committee held a closed-door meeting with Epstein’s victims. Committee Chair Representative James Comer told reporters that he intends to expand the scope of the investigation, citing new witnesses and victim testimonies heard during the session.
