A woman in China’s Chengdu has developed depression and anxiety after being seen asleep naked by two male window cleaners outside her home. Her husband has since come forward demanding compensation and a public apology from their property management firm.
The couple, who reside in the upscale Port Apartment complex and pay 10,000 yuan (approximately Rs 1,23,294) in monthly rent, shared their distress with the South China Morning Post.

The incident took place on the morning of April 25 when the woman was asleep in their bedroom and curtains were open with the lights on.
“I heard my wife scream,” said her husband, surnamed Cheng. “I went to check on her. My wife was sleeping naked. Two workers, who were cleaning our window, were gawking at her.” Cheng said he immediately drew the curtains shut.
The couple criticised the property management company for failing to inform them of the exact timing of the cleaning. While they were notified that window cleaning would occur sometime between April 21 and 30, they had requested advance notice before the cleaners arrived.
“They promised they would notify us. However, in the end, they forgot to do so,” he said.
Since the incident, Cheng’s wife has been diagnosed with depression and anxiety, with her husband noting that she has remained in low spirits ever since.
The couple are seeking a public apology and fair compensation from the property management company, but Cheng said both requests have been rejected. He further said that the property firm offered only a basket of fruit in apology, with no acknowledgement of her mental suffering.
“They only sent a worker with a basket of fruit to our home to apologise. As for my wife’s mental suffering, they showed no concern,” he said.
The couple had their lease up for renewal at the end of August. Under public pressure sparked by their online posts, the management offered a rent reduction of 600 yuan per month if they renewed.
Cheng rejected the offer, saying, “We can afford a monthly rent of 10,000 yuan. Are we short of 600 yuan? This offer is typical of their attitude in dealing with our problem; we are not satisfied.”
