Pakistani diplomat Amir Zubair Siddiqui has been summoned by a Chennai court in connection with a money laundering case, Asianet News Malayalam reported.

His summons notice alleges Siddiqui was planning to carry out terror attacks in India, and has hence been asked to appear before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on October 15, according to the report.

The notice also mentions Siddiqui had planned to attack the US and Israeli consulates in India, and included his address in Pakistan’s Karachi.

According to the records, he last worked at the Pakistan High Commission in Sri Lanka, per the report.

In April 2018, the NIA had put Siddiqui on its wanted list and released his photo, seeking information.

During the investigation, the NIA had found that the diplomat, while working in Sri Lanka from 2009 to 2016, engaged people to indulge in espionage and terror activities in India.

Nicknamed as ‘Boss’ on the NIA list, Siddiqui was charge-sheeted in February that year, along with two others, for plotting 26/11 type attacks in southern India.

He was a visa counsellor at the High Commission of Pakistan in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The original case was registered in March 2014 by the Tamil Nadu Police following the arrest of a Sri Lankan national, namely Mohd Sakir Hussain, in Chennai, who had arrived in India as per the instructions from Siddique to conduct subversive activities in India.

The case was taken over by the NIA in June 2014 as directed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
