US President Donald Trump was caught on a hot mic as he whispered to French President Emmanuel Macron that Russian leader Vladimir Putin “wants to make a deal for me”.

He repeated his remark and quipped that it does sound unbelievable, but it’s actually true.

The incident took place in the East Room ahead of the multilateral meeting with the European leaders at the White House on Monday.

“I think he wants to make a deal,” Trump whispered to Macron, CNN reported.

“I think he wants to make a deal for me, you understand that? As crazy as it sounds,” the US President added.

Further, he is also heard talking about setting up a trilateral meeting with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He has said that it is possible “if everything goes well”.

European leaders have huddled at the White House today, seeking security guarantees for Ukraine and rest of Europe, fearing future aggression from Russia.

Earlier in the day, Trump told reporters that Putin and Zelenskyy were ready to bring the war to an end and “if everything goes well”, a trilateral meeting is possible in the near future.
