WhatsApp is getting eerily close to being a Google Meet/Zoom rival in the market. The messaging app is dabbling with AI thanks to Meta but it is equally focused on bringing new features that will make it extremely popular for making video calls of all nature.

The latest update talks about WhatsApp letting you schedule meetings, just like Google Meet and Zoom and the people included in the list will even be notified when the meeting is about to start.

WhatsApp Gets New Calling Features: All Details

WhatsApp has multiple features coming for its users who can make better use of the group calling feature on the platform. Schedule calls, as the name suggests, lets you add people and create a calendar for the meeting/video call with a group of people.

This works similar to Teams, Google Meet, and even Zoom. In addition to this, you get other tools like ‘raise a hand’ which gives you the turn to speak during an interview or a meeting.

WhatsApp is also bringing a new design for the calls tab so that you can see the upcoming calls and the details of the people attending these calls and also give the link for them.

The person setting up the call will also get alerted when people join the meeting via the same shared link. WhatsApp assures that like all the personal calls that people make, these group calls are also protected by its end-to-end encryption standard.

The platform is offering these features via a global update which has started to roll out gradually to all users. Seeing WhatsApp bring a schedule feature for calls makes us believe that the option coming to chats cannot be ruled out.

WhatsApp has other features in the pipeline, including the voice support for Meta AI which is now being tested on the Android beta version once again.

The Meta AI chatbot will have a dynamic halo icon similar to Siri and answer your queries with the text given on the screen. The AI chatbot will also cite the source for its response which is critical for the credibility of the platform in the long run.

WhatsApp keeps AI voice mode disabled by default and you can tap on the Meta AI icon next to the compose chat tab on the bottom-right of the feed. Meta AI will seek your permission to access the microphone and speaker on the phone so that the AI chatbot can hear and speak to you for commands.
