Fatima Farooq confronts her husband live on Facebook while speaking on Mehraj Malik’s PSA detention.

Political activist Fatima Farooq was live-streaming about the tense situation in Doda district when her furious husband barged into the frame, hurling abuses and trying to physically stop her from speaking. But Farooq Fatima did not back down in the confrontation that unfolded on Facebook Live as the activist spoke about the detention of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Mehraj Malik who was booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

Fatima Farooq, a former Block Development Council member, insisted she could not remain silent in the face of what she called blatant injustice.

‘Who Is Mehraj Malik To You?’

In the viral video, Fatima Farooq is seen looking into the camera and saying, “A representative of one lakh people has been booked under the Public Safety Act on the grounds that he’s a threat to public safety. How can this happen?”

Moments later, her husband storms into the frame, shouting, “Tu kya live kar rahi hai? Why are you doing this?” An argument quickly escalates.

“Are you out of your mind?” he snaps. Fatima Farooq fires back, “What wrong have I done?”

“Does your brain work?” he presses. Fatima Farooq doesn’t flinch and says, “Yes, my brain works. Did I say anything against you?”

The confrontation peaks when he demands: “Who is Mehraj Malik to you?” Fatima Farooq answers calmly, “Mehraj Malik is no one to me, but I am standing with justice.”

As he lunges for her phone, Fatima Farooq swings the camera toward him.

“You all can see… standing with the truth,” she tells her viewers. Her husband then issues a chilling threat, “Stop it or I will choke your throat.” The live stream cuts off seconds later, as he shouts, “Kar bandh isko!”

Fatima Farooq, Her Husband Arrested

Hours later, police took the couple into custody. Fatima Farooq was charged with violating prohibitory orders and unlawful assembly, while her husband may face charges of domestic violence for manhandling her on camera. Police officials said Fatima Farooq had not filed a formal complaint against her husband.

Fatima Farooq was earlier injured in a protest against Mehraj Malik’s detention, clashing with police before being seen in a wheelchair pushed by the same husband who had humiliated her online.

Why Has Mehraj Malik Been Detained?

Mehraj Malik, the only AAP legislator in Jammu and Kashmir and a Muslim MLA from Doda, was detained under PSA after District Magistrate Harvinder Singh claimed his activities posed a “grave threat to public order.” Mehraj Malik had recently used harsh language against the district administration over unpaid dues and the state of health services.
