A woman Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Thursday. Buski Nuppo, 35, was wanted in nine cases of violence and carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh.

The encounter occurred in the morning on a forested hill between Gufdi and Permapara villages within the jurisdiction of Gadiras police station. According to an official quoted by news agency PTI, a District Reserve Guard (DRG) team had launched a search operation following inputs about Naxalite activity in the area.

Security personnel recovered the body of Nuppo from the spot after the firing stopped. Nuppo was a member of the Maoists’ Malangir area committee and was wanted in cases registered across Sukma and Dantewada districts.

According to the police, a 315 bore rifle, cartridges, a wireless set, detonators, gelatin rods, Cordex wire, gunpowder, a radio, and Maoist literature were seized from the site.

Earlier this month, on September 11, ten Naxalites — including CPI (Maoist) central committee member Modem Balakrishna — were killed in an encounter in Gariaband district.

As per the police, with this encounter, 247 Naxalites have been killed in Chhattisgarh so far this year. Of them, 218 were killed in the Bastar division, 27 in Gariaband, and two in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district of Durg division.
