Residents of coastal Andhra Pradesh should brace for intense rainfall and strong winds over the coming days. Officials have issued a major alert, warning of heavy to very heavy showers starting Friday and continuing into Saturday.

A senior official from the Disaster Management Authority has explained that a low-pressure system is likely to develop over the north and central Bay of Bengal by Friday, influenced by a surface cyclone. This system is expected to intensify into a depression by Saturday and make landfall along the south Odisha–north Andhra coastline.

As a result, heavy rains are forecast for several parts of coastal Andhra from Friday onward, with certain districts facing the risk of extremely heavy downpours over the weekend. Light to moderate rains are also expected in Rayalaseema. Coastal areas may experience gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h. Fishermen have been strongly advised against venturing into the sea during this period.

Safety Precautions For Residents

Authorities urge people to remain cautious: avoid staying under trees, near damaged structures, or close to hoardings. Those living in low-lying areas must stay alert and avoid crossing flooded streams, canals, and roads.

District-Wise Rainfall Forecast

Heavy rain is expected in West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, and Prakasam districts. Moderate rain expected in East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, and Kakinada.

Rainfall intensity is expected to increase, with extremely heavy rains forecast for Eluru, Krishna, Palnadu, and Guntur districts on Friday and Saturday.

Rising River Flows A Growing Concern

River flooding remains a critical issue. The Krishna River is maintaining a high flood flow, with current inflow and outflow at the Prakasam Barrage recorded at 4.55 lakh cusecs — expected to rise to 5 lakh cusecs by Friday. Similarly, the Godavari River’s flood level is expected to increase, with the current flow at Dhavaleswaram Cotton Barrage at 3.97 lakh cusecs, likely to rise further depending on rainfall intensity.

The Disaster Management Authority has again urged residents in river basin areas and low-lying villages to take appropriate safety measures and prepare for potential flooding.

This weekend’s weather conditions are being closely monitored. Residents are advised to stay updated with official bulletins and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
