The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday slammed Congress MP Tariq Anwar after a video showed him riding piggyback on farmers while visiting flood-affected areas in Bihar’s Katihar.

In a post on X, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla said, “Sense of entitlement of Congress. Even in flood-affected areas, they want VVIP protocol?”

He went on to allege that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge “insults” farmers, adding that Anwar had also “insulted” relief work by sitting on the shoulders of locals while “touring” flood-hit regions.

In the later part of the post, the BJP leader also took a potshot at Congress and AAP, saying, “Congress MP in VVIP mode. Rahul Gandhi in vacation mode. AAP in hiding mode.”

He then mentioned that it is on Prime Minister Modi, who is in “work mode”.

The reaction from BJP comes after a video of Congress MP Tariq Anwar went viral, where he was seen being carried on the backs of villagers during a flood inspection in Bihar’s Katihar. The clip shows villagers wading through knee-deep water while transporting the senior leader across a waterlogged field.

Anwar, who represents Katihar in Parliament, was on a two-day visit to his constituency to review flood damage and meet affected residents. He used multiple means of transport, including a tractor and a boat, to move around the inundated areas.

Anwar had earlier posted pictures and videos of his inspection on X, emphasising his solidarity with those impacted by the floods. He wrote that he “stands with the families affected by the flood” and urged the government to provide “immediate relief” to the victims.
