Vaishno Devi Yatra: The pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir has been suspended from Sunday, October 5, to Tuesday, October 7, due to inclement weather in the region.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDB) on Friday announced the suspension of the pilgrimage in view of the inclement weather advisory issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). It said that the pilgrimage would resume on October 8, provided weather conditions remain favourable.

“Yatra Update. In view of the inclement weather advisory issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, Vaishno Devi Yatra shall remain suspended from 5th to 7th October 2025 & will resume on 08/10/2025. Devotees may stay updated through official channels,” the shrine board said in a post on X.

Authorities emphasised that the suspension has been implemented in the interest of safety and well-being of the pilgrims, and urged everyone to adhere to the advisory.

Last month, the pilgrimage to the holy shrine remained suspended for 22 days due to incessant rainfall and landslides in the region. The yatra, which was suspended following a landslide on August 26, the longest since the COVID-19 restrictions, had resumed on September 17.

A devastating landslide occurred on the yatra trek on August 26, which claimed the lives 34 people and left 20 others injured. The disaster struck in the afternoon around 3 pm when heavy rains triggered a massive landslide near the Inderprastha Bhojnalaya at Adhkuwari, about halfway along the 12-kilometre trek from Katra to the holy cave atop Trikuta hills.

Devotees Throng Cave Temple During Navratri

Meanwhile, over 1.70 lakh devotees paid obeisance at the Mata Vaishno Devi temple during Navratri, with chants of ‘Jai Mata Di’ and bhajans echoing throughout Katra, the base camp of the shrine.

Navratri, celebrated from September 22 to October 1, is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga. It holds special significance at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, which records one of its highest pilgrim visits during this period.

Vaishno Devi is one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage sites in India, located in the Trikuta hills of Jammu and Kashmir. The holy cave shrine is dedicated to Mata Vaishno Devi, a manifestation of the Divine Mother Goddess. The journey to the shrine is a trek of approximately 13 km from the base camp in Katra.
