Amid the devastation in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun following a cloudburst on Tuesday, a widely shared video on social media showed a tractor-trolley being swept away in the currents of an overflowing river.

The video, as claimed to be from Dehradun’s Vikasnagar area, was carrying at least 10 people when it got stuck in the midst of the currents.

Social media reports claimed the labourers were heading to a site for mining work. While four of them managed to escape, six others were still missing.

A team of the State Disaster Response Force was deployed to carry out rescue operations, another video showed.

(News18 could not independently verify if the video was from Dehradun).

Multiple roads were damaged, while houses, shops and a bridge were washed out following heavy overnight rain at various places in Uttarakhand. According to news agency PTI, many people were reported to have gone missing following the calamity that also triggered some landslides.

It quoted Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman as saying that damage was reported from Sahastradhara and Mal Devta in Dehradun, and also from Mussoorie.

Teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations in the affected areas, while 300 to 400 people have been moved to safety, the official highlighted.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the rain-affected areas of Dehradun district to review the situation on the ground.

Local MLAs and senior officials accompanied him.

Interacting with reporters in the rain-hit Maldevta area, he said, “All rivers are in spate following heavy rains. Roads have been breached at 25 to 30 places. Approach roads are cut off. Houses and government properties have been damaged.”

“Normal life is severely affected. Rescue teams are working on a war footing to restore normalcy,” the Chief Minister said.

“The state government stands with every affected family. The administration is already on alert mode, and the NDRF, SDRF, police and local administration are constantly active,” he added.
