A 23-year-old deaf and mute Dalit woman, who was allegedly abducted and gang-raped, was found hanging in her home in a village under the Loni Police Station area, police said on Thursday.

Police said she returned home on Wednesday night and was later found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room. The woman is believed to have taken her own life.

Her father, who sells carpets for a living, filed an FIR at Loni Police Station, stating that his daughter had been gang-raped. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari confirmed the report and said police teams have been formed to catch the accused.

So far, two of the three accused, Rohit (23) and Bhola (45), have been arrested. Efforts are on to trace the third suspect.

As police transported the body for postmortem, several Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) activists gathered at the local police station to protest the incident and demand justice.

Police officers met the protesters and assured them that all those involved would be arrested and brought to justice soon.

In another incident from Delhi, a 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in Narela Industrial Area.

According to the police, the incident took place on Wednesday night when the accused, a factory worker, took the girl to an abandoned flat and sexually assaulted her.

“Upon reaching the location, it was found that the victim, a resident of Narela, had been sexually assaulted by the accused, who is her neighbour. He was immediately taken into custody,” a senior police officer said.

The girl received medical assistance, and her statement is being recorded in the presence of counsellors, police said. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
