Pretending to be a disabled person, a thief entered a hospital with a prescription in his hand and stole a doctor’s iPhone from his coat and fled in a quiet manner.

On August 20, the thief, identified as Mohammad Faiz, entered Hallet Hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, limping with a walking stick and carrying a doctor’s prescription, NDTV reported.

According to NDTV report, Faiz posed as a patient seeking treatment. Dressed in casual clothes, a shirt and shorts, he quickly gained the trust of the medical staff.

Surveillance footage captured him calmly walking through the hospital lobby. As he passed by two doctors, he discreetly slipped his hand into the pocket of a doctor’s coat and pulled out a mobile phone. He tucked the phone under his arm, walked out of the hospital, and later placed it in his pocket, all in a matter of seconds.

However, the incident, which might have been just another mobile theft for Faiz, didn’t go unnoticed as cops launched an investigation as soon as the theft came to light.

Using the CCTV footage, Police successfully tracked him down within an hour and arrested him.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Shravan Kumar praised the team’s quick action. “I congratulate the entire team for working smarter than the mobile thief and identifying him. The CCTV footage played a key role in solving the case,” he said.

“I congratulate the entire team for working smarter than the mobile thief and identifying him,” NDTV quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shravan Kumar, as saying. “Because of the CCTV footage, we could solve the case,” the DSP added.

During questioning, Faiz confessed to the theft and admitted to using false identities to commit similar crimes in the past.
