A 600-kilometre journey that was meant to change the life of a 37-year-old woman turned out to be her last. Mukesh Kumari, an anganwadi supervisor, drove from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan to Barmer to meet her lover. But the meeting ended in tragedy—Mukesh was allegedly murdered with an iron rod by her partner, Manaram, a school teacher.

Mukesh’s body has been recovered, and Manaram has now been arrested.

According to police, the two met on Facebook last year and gradually entered into a relationship. Mukesh, who had divorced her husband, had reportedly been pressuring Manaram to marry her. However, his own divorce case is still pending in court. The issue of marriage is believed to have caused frequent arguments between them, NDTV reported.

On September 10, Mukesh drove her car to Barmer to meet Manaram. During the visit, she informed his family about their relationship, which led to heated arguments, prompting the family to call the police to mediate the situation.

Later that day, Mukesh and Manaram went out together, during which he allegedly struck her with an iron rod. He then placed her body in the car and pushed it on the road in an attempt to make the murder look like an accident.

Manaram later told his lawyer to inform the police about the body. During the investigation, officers found inconsistencies in the story and grew suspicious. They tracked the mobile phone locations of both individuals, which confirmed that they were together at the time of Mukesh’s death.

Manaram was called in for questioning, during which he confessed to the murder. He broke down during interrogation and was taken into custody.

Narendra Singh, Superintendent of Police, Barmer, confirmed Mukesh was killed by her lover Manaram, and they are investigating the case from all angles.

The police officials are waiting for Mukesh’s family to claim the body.
