Seven Of Two Families, Returning After Performing Kin’s Last Rites, Die In Jaipur Car Crash

Seven people from two families died after their car plunged off Ring Road into a waterlogged underpass in Jaipur while returning from Haridwar.

Seven people from two families were killed after their car they were travelling while returning from Haridwar after performing the last rites of a deceased relative, lost control and fell off the Ring Road into a waterlogged underpass in Jaipur, police said on Sunday.

According to the police, the accident took place late Saturday night in the Shivdaspura police station area near Prahladpura, when a speeding car struck a divider and then plunged about 16 feet off the Ring Road.

The mangled vehicle was spotted on Sunday by the locals, who alerted the police. Subsequently, the car was pulled out with the help of a crane.

“All seven passengers of the car were found dead inside. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem,” news agency PTI quoted Shivdaspura SHO Surendra Saini as saying.

The deceased were identified as Ramraj Vaishnav, a resident of Vatika, Sanganer; his wife Madhu; their son Rudra; Ramraj’s relative Kaluram from Kekri, Ajmer; Kaluram’s wife Seema; their son Rohit; and Gajraj.

Saini stated that the accident likely occurred late on Saturday night, although the exact time remains unknown. “It came to light only on Sunday afternoon when the damaged car was noticed in the underpass,” he added.

According to police, Ramraj, a taxi driver, had travelled to Haridwar with Kaluram and their families to immerse the ashes of a deceased relative. The accident occurred while they were returning to Jaipur.
