Earlier today, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha met the injured victims at Government Medical College. He told the reporters that the Defence Minister will go the village if weather permits.

“If the weather permits, we will visit the affected village. Otherwise, he (defence minister) will meet the injured in GMC and return to Delhi,” Sinha was quoted as saying by PTI.

“Sixteen people are under treatment in the GMC and their condition is stable. I hope all of them will recover fully and return home soon,” the LG added.

He also said an amount of Rs 4.13 crore has been spent on relief and rehabilitation of the victims, and both the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the centre will ensure their proper rehabilitation.

Intense Rain In Jammu

The Jammu region has been witnessing intense monsoon showers for the past few days, causing rivers to swell, triggering landslides, and disrupting normal life in low-lying and hilly areas.

A bridge over the Sahar Khad river near the Jammu-Pathankot Highway in Kathua has been damaged after the river began flowing in spate due to continuous rains. The traffic got disrupted due to the incident.

Earlier, on August 17, seven people lost their lives and 11 others were injured in a cloudburst that struck Kathua district.
