A disagreement about “spoilers” turned into a physical assault on Friday, leaving a techie and his wife hurt during a late-night horror movie screening at a Chinchwad INOX theatre.

The suspense of The Conjuring: Last Rites was spoiled for the 29-year-old software professional and his wife and sister when a man sitting behind them began recounting scenes to his wife.

After the break, things became worse when the techie urged him to stop.

According to the techie’s complaint, the man began mistreating him before attacking him, punching, kicking, and dragging him by the collar to the face and stomach.

The accused and his spouse have also been charged with assaulting the techie’s wife when she attempted to intervene.

After receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital for their injuries, the couple complained to Chinchwad police on Sunday.

According to senior police inspector Bangar, a case has been filed against the accused, a resident of Vallabhnagar, and his spouse under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 117 (grievous hurt), 115 (causing hurt), and 352 (inducing breach of peace).

He stated that additional investigation is being conducted and that the accused and his spouse were taken into custody within a day.

Hollywood horror franchise The Conjuring returned to Indian theatres this month with its latest installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites.

Released across cinemas on Friday, the film continues the supernatural saga of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

The franchise, which has a strong fan following in India, drew audiences for its late-night shows, marking another big-ticket horror release for 2025.
