The case pertains to the brutal assault and killing of his wife by setting her on fire at their residence in Greater Noida’s Sirsa village on Thursday. Horrific videos of the incident surfaced online, showing the husband dragging Nikki by her hair and unleashing a brutal assault on her. In another video, the victim woman was seen in flames on the stairs.
Kanchan, the woman’s sister who is married to Vipin’s brother, said that they were being tortured by in-laws and their husbands for Rs 36 lakh dowry, despite all their demands, which included expensive gifts like Scorpio, Bullet bike and gold, being met earlier.
Nikki and Vipin had married in 2016 and six months into their marriage, the husband started torturing her over dowry, Kanchan said.
“Our father gifted a top-model Scorpio SUV, a Bullet (Royal Enfield) bike, cash, gold, everything. Besides this, gifts would be sent from our home on Karwa Chauth. Our parents did all they could, but the in-laws were not happy,” she told NDTV.
She detailed the horror that unfolded on Thursday in front of her eyes, she said that even she was assaulted by the in-laws, followed by brutal assault on her sister, who was killed that night.
“They asked us to get Rs 36 lakh from our home. I was also assaulted between 1.30 am and 4 am on Thursday. They told me, ‘We have got dowry for one (sister), what about the other? You are better off dead. We will marry again,” she said.
“That same evening, they brutally assaulted my sister in front of me and the children. They then threw some liquid on her and set her ablaze in front of my eyes. I tried to save her, but I could not,” Kanchan added.
