Marathwada is reeling under the impact of continuous heavy rains, with floodwaters causing severe disruption across districts. The downpour has triggered chaos, flooding hundreds of villages, damaging homes and farmlands, and leaving several areas cut off. Officials warn that the situation remains grim as rivers continue to swell and rainfall shows no signs of slowing down.

In Solapur, the ‘Sina’ river has overflowed, forcing authorities to shut down the Solapur–Pune National Highway near Lamboti since late Tuesday night. Vehicles on both sides were stranded in long queues, while movement of essential supplies came to a halt. The Solapur-Kolhapur highway has also been closed due to rising water levels near Tirhe village, where the Sina river bridge has become unsafe for passage. Villagers fear isolation as road connectivity remains cut off and even the transport of newspapers and daily essentials has been disrupted since early Wednesday morning.

The rail network too is feeling the strain. Water levels have risen alarmingly near two railway bridges on the Sina river, compelling Solapur Railway Division to issue safety measures. All trains passing through the section have been ordered to slow down to 30 kmph to avoid accidents. In Karmala taluka, floodwaters from the Sina river have almost touched a bridge near Mundewadi, raising fears of further disruption. The Daund-Wadi line, a crucial link in the national railway network, is under close watch, and officials have requested local administration to regulate water flow in the region to prevent a complete suspension of services.

The humanitarian toll of the flooding is rising rapidly. In Solapur district, 16 villages in Madha taluka are surrounded by floodwaters from the Sina river. In Dharashiv, the Manjara river has overflowed following days of torrential rain, inundated fields and destroyed crops in Kalamb taluka. Further north, in Jalna district, the Sukhna river has spilled over in Badnapur and Ambad talukas, flooding farmlands in Wakluni and Maher Bhaigaon. Farmers are left staring at devastation as standing crops have been washed away, compounding their economic distress. Across Marathwada, families are struggling as homes collapse, roads remain blocked, and rescue efforts stretch thin.

With rains still pounding the region, authorities fear more villages could go underwater in the coming days. Relief teams are working to shift stranded residents to safer zones, but with highways closed and railways disrupted, movement of resources is proving difficult.
