The Income Tax Department carried out searches at multiple locations connected to Pothys Private Limited, a leading textile and jewellery retail chain in Tamil Nadu, over suspected tax evasion on Friday.
A team of 12 Income Tax officials raided the residence of the two sons of the owner of Pothys Private Limited on East Coast Road, Chennai.

The Income Tax Department is conducting raids at the Neelankarai residence of Ashok Pothy and his brother, sons of the Pothys owner, on East Coast Road (ECR) in Chennai. Reports indicate that a team of six Income Tax officials is present at one house, while 12 officials are conducting the raid at the residence of the two sons since around 7:20 am.
According to a report by The Federal, Income Tax officials are conducting searches at more than 25 locations across Tamil Nadu, covering showrooms and properties in cities such as Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, and Tirunelveli.
The Federal also reported that this is not the first time Pothys has come under the scanner of the Income Tax Department. Back in October 2016, officials raided nine locations, including showrooms in Chennai, Coimbatore, and Puducherry, after Rs 1 crore in unaccounted cash was seized from two employees in Puducherry.
