Himachal Rain: As per IMD data, Himachal Pradesh saw 68 per cent more rainfall than normal across the state.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday informed that heavy rains last night have caused severe damage across the state, with four deaths reported in Shimla.

He further informed that the Disaster Management Act has been invoked in response to the situation, and the entire state has been declared a disaster-affected area starting today.
Heavy rain has wreaked havoc across Himachal Pradesh, claiming a total of 320 lives in this monsoon season. The total damage across the state is Rs 3 lakh crore, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this August, Himachal Pradesh saw 68 per cent more rainfall than normal across the state, making it the 9th-highest August rainfall since 1901 and the highest since 1949.
Speaking to ANI, Senior Scientist at IMD Himachal Pradesh, Sandeep Kumar Sharma, said, “In the past 24 hours, almost all districts in Himachal Pradesh have received rain, with the monsoon remaining active. Bilaspur district recorded extremely heavy rainfall, while Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi, and Shimla districts saw heavy to very heavy rain in several areas.”
As many as 793 roads are closed in Himachal Pradesh with six trains on the Shimla-Kalka track also being cancelled due to landslides.
A red alert has also been issued on Monday, warning of extremely heavy rain in isolated areas in four to six districts till Tuesday.
Rain Fury Across Other States
Besides Himachal, several other states, including Uttarakhand and Punjab, are also reeling under floods amid heavy rain.
In Uttarakhand, a landslide on the Kedarnath national highway left two people dead and six others injured on Monday, reported PTI citing an official.
Punjab has also been hit by floods due to incessant rain. The Punjab government on Monday announced closure of all colleges, universities, and polytechnic institutes till September 3.
Villages worst affected by the floods were in the Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur and Amritsar districts.
