Union Home Minister Amit Shah will destroy narcotics worth Rs 4,794 crore on Tuesday to mark the launch of a nationwide Drug Destruction Drive, underscoring the Modi government’s resolve to eradicate the menace of drugs.

Shah will also address the 2nd National Conference of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force Heads of States in Delhi, aimed at uniting all state Anti-Narcotics Task Forces (ANTFs) for a coordinated fight against drug trafficking.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Shah said the initiative reflects the Centre’s “zero tolerance” approach to narcotics and its commitment to making India drug-free.

“Modi govt determined to eradicate menace of drugs by uniting all Anti-Narcotics Task Forces of India. Tomorrow, will address the ‘2nd National Conference of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force Heads of States’ in Delhi. Also, it will destroy drugs worth ₹4,794 crore to mark the inauguration of a Drug destruction drive,” Shah wrote on X.

Officials said the conference will discuss ongoing operations, best practices, and strategies to boost inter-agency coordination, intelligence-sharing, and technology adoption in tackling illegal substances.

The Modi government has adopted a “Zero tolerance policy” against drugs. Shah had directed all states and UTs in 2021 to establish a dedicated Anti-Narcotics Task Force. He had inaugurated the first National Conference of ANTF Heads from all states and UTs in April 2023.
