The tragic death of Finance Ministry official Navjot Singh in the BMW crash has left his family and friends devastated, with his closest friend, Rishabh Samrat, revealing the cruel timing of the loss.

“Today is the 22nd birthday of Navjot’s son, Navnoor, and Navjot had ordered a gift for him which came this morning itself,” Rishabh said, breaking down in tears. The day also coincides with Singh’s funeral.

Rishabh alleged that Navjot was deliberately taken far away from the crash site in order to hush up the matter.

He claimed that Gaganpreet, the accused, drove Navjot to a Mukherjee Nagar hospital instead of the nearest facility, and it has since emerged that her father is a partner in that hospital.

He recalled that he had spoken to Navjot just a day earlier about retirement plans and looking for a flat. He also described Navjot’s fondness for riding motorcycles. “Apart from his car, he would sometimes go out riding his bike,” he said.

Rishabh added that Gaganpreet had called him while heading towards Azadpur. “When they were taking him towards Azadpur, Gaganpreet also called me, so I assumed Navjot must have gone that side,” he recounted.

Expressing hope for accountability, he said, “We hope the court will deliver justice.”

After the post-mortem, Navjot’s body is to be taken to Venkateshwar Hospital in Dwarka to be shown to his wife, who remains admitted there in stable condition. The funeral will follow.

Gaganpreet has been arrested and sent to two-day custody in connection with the case. Her husband, who was also admitted to the hospital, has been released.
