The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lodged a police complaint against the Maharashtra Congress over a series of controversial and allegedly misleading posts shared from its official handle on X (formerly Twitter), accusing the party of attempting to mislead the public.

The case was registered at the Marine Drive police station following a complaint by the BJP Social Media Cell Coordinator, Prakash Gade.

One of the posts in question reportedly shows a BJP office set on fire, with protesters from various states demonstrating outside.

In his complaint, Gade alleged that the posts aimed to incite public unrest and mislead citizens, stating that such actions amount to a criminal offense under the law. He further claimed that multiple objectionable posts were made from the official Maharashtra Congress handle, and their content was legally problematic.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered under Sections 192, 353(1), and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to provocation with intent to cause a riot and public mischief.

One of the controversial posts, dated September 28, read, “The BJP should not see the end of the people. Otherwise, just as the Gen Z in Leh set the BJP office on fire, a similar situation will arise across the entire country.(sic)”

In another post on the same day, written in Marathi, the Congress party stated, “A Direct Warning to the Modi Government Before Sonam Wangchuk’s Arrest. They’ve thrown into jail someone who toils for Leh-Ladakh, for the country, but Modi-Shah, remember, if the people awaken, your Delhi throne will shake.”

The Maharashtra Congress is yet to issue an official response to the FIR.
