A former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader triggered a political uproar in Bihar after likening Tejashwi Yadav’s wife to a “Jersey cow”, triggering sharp condemnation from the RJD.

Speaking at a public meeting in Nawada district, Rajballabh Yadav questioned Tejashwi’s decision to marry outside his state and community.

Without naming her directly, he launched a personal attack on his wife. “Caste is used only for votes. When it came to marriage, where did the marriage take place? What was the need to get the marriage done in Haryana and Punjab? Was he getting a woman or a jersey cow?” he said.

Rajballabh Yadav, recently released after spending nine and a half years in prison in a POCSO case, has repeatedly targeted RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi.

Tejashwi Yadav married his schoolmate Rachel Codinho in 2021, who later adopted the name Rajshree Yadav after marriage.

Originally from Rewari, Haryana, Rajshree is rarely seen in public and has largely stayed away from politics, devoting herself to raising their two children — daughter Katyayini, born in March 2023, and a baby boy born in May this year.

RJD Hits Back

The RJD reacted strongly to Rajballabh’s remarks, with the RJD’s women’s wing staging demonstrations and burning the effigy of Rajballabh Yadav, denouncing his remarks as indecent and unacceptable.

Former Nawada MLA and senior RJD leader Kaushal Yadav, in a press conference, said the comments were not just an attack on Rajshree Yadav but on the dignity of the backward and Dalit communities.

“Lalu Prasad Yadav is one of the top leaders of the country, the leader of the backward and Dalits. Making such derogatory comments against his daughter-in-law hurts the society. The entire society is heartbroken,” he said.

Kaushal Yadav further attacked Rajballabh’s record, recalling his conviction in the POCSO case.

“Ten years ago, Nitish Kumar government sent him to jail in a case of raping a Kurmi girl. Now, after coming out of jail, is it like a reward for him to abuse Lalu Yadav’s daughter-in-law? Is looking at women and girls with wrong intentions his only identity?” he asked.

He added that Rajshree Yadav, who stays away from the limelight, had no role in politics and did not deserve such attacks.

“Tejashwi Yadav’s wife is rarely seen in public and is quietly raising her two children. Making comments against her is proof of his low thinking and that his mental state is not good,” Kaushal Yadav said.

Calling it shameful that someone from within the Yadav community would resort to such language, he remarked: “It is a matter of pride to belong to the Yadav community, but it is unfortunate that someone from the same community is using such abusive language.”
