Kannada actor Ranya Rao was first arrested on March 3 at Kempegowda International Airport.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 102 crore on Kannada film actor Ranya Rao in connection with the high-profile gold smuggling case.
Along with Rao, heavy penalties have also been issued to three others: Rs 63 crore on hotelier Tarun Kondaraju, and Rs 56 crore each on jewellers Sahil Sakaria Jain and Bharat Kumar Jain.

According to DRI sources, the fines were handed over on Tuesday at Bengaluru Central Jail, where all four accused are currently lodged. Each of them was served with a 250-page notice, accompanied by a 2,500-page annexure containing detailed evidence and documentation.
“It was a herculean exercise to prepare a detailed notice along with supporting documents. Today we served 11,000 pages of documents to the accused,” a DRI official told PTI.
The case dates back to March, when Rao was caught at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru after arriving from Dubai with 14.8 kg of smuggled gold in her possession.
The actress, who is the stepdaughter of a senior police officer, K Ramachandra Rao, was later booked under the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act (COFEPOSA).
In July this year, she was sentenced to one year in jail under COFEPOSA.
The case was also brought before the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday. The court has scheduled the next hearing for 11 September, sources in the DRI confirmed.
