A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday evening during a political rally led by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay. A stampede broke out as thousands arrived to attend the rally, leading to chaos that claimed 40 lives and left several injured. The incident has left the family members of the victims shattered.

Among those who attended the rally was a twenty-year-old Brinda, a big fan of Vijay, who went to the venue, leaving her two-year-old son with her sister. Her son and sister did not know that would be the last time they would see Brinda.

Brinda was among the 40 victims who died in the stampede. Her sister tried calling Brinda on Saturday at nearly 4 PM. Brinda did not pick up the phone, and her phone was switched off after 10 PM.

“My sister left her child with me and said she was going to attend the rally. We called her around 4 pm, but she did not pick up. We kept trying, but there was no response. Her phone was switched off after 10 pm. This morning, her husband sent her a photograph to the organisers, and we came to know she has died,” Brinda’s sister told NDTV.

She further mentioned that proper arrangements must be made for events organised on a massive scale.

“If you organise a meeting, ensure there is space, ensure there is food and water for people. Just announcing compensation doesn’t fix anything. I don’t want money, I want my sister’s life back. Can they give her life back?” she asked.

Actor-Politician Vijay Expresses Grief

In his first reaction after the stampede, Vijay expressed grief and announced Rs 20 lakh compensation for the families of the victims killed in the stampede.

“This amount is, of course, not significant in the face of such a loss. Still, at this moment, it is my duty as one who belongs to your family to stand by you, my dear ones, with a heavy heart. Likewise, I pray to God that all our loved ones who are injured and undergoing treatment recover swiftly and return home,” he said in a post on X.
