Shakuntla Kumar, Director of Nulife Hospital in Delhi, where the Finance Ministry official and his wife were taken soon after the accident on Sunday, has said the accused driver, Gaganpreet, was given immediate medical care upon arrival.

She also said the male patient (senior Finance Ministry official Navjot Singh) was in a serious condition.

The police were informed and all medical procedures were followed, she said.

“We gave Gaganpreet first aid,” she said, adding, “The male patient was in a serious condition.”

“We informed the police and followed all medical procedures,” she added.

Narrating the sequence of events, Shakuntla Kumar further said, “At nearly 2 pm, a medico-legal case related to a road accident involving a car and a motorcycle was brought to our hospital.”

“First aid was offered, and the police were informed,” she said.

“A man aged between 50 and 57 years was brought in dead, and his wife, who sustained injuries but was vitally stable, was also brought in. As per the choice of this lady, who was brought along with this man, after first aid and necessary stabilisation, she was transferred to another hospital for further management on her request,” the hospital director said.

“Two additional patients, both occupants of the car, were also received at our emergency department. Both were provided immediate medical aid. One female patient, after initial observation and treatment, was discharged in a stable condition.”

“The male patient (the husband of the woman driver), following advice from our critical care team, has been referred to a higher centre for advanced management,” she added.

The accident occurred on the Ring Road near Delhi Cantonment Metro station, where a BMW allegedly hit the Finance Ministry official Navjot Singh’s two-wheeler.

His wife was riding pillion.

Singh, a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs and resident of Hari Nagar, succumbed to his injuries, while his wife sustained serious injuries.

The couple was returning home after visiting the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara.

According to police, the woman who was allegedly driving the luxury car and her husband, both residents of Gurugram, were also injured and admitted to the hospital.

After being discharged on Monday, the woman was taken into custody for questioning and legal proceedings.

Police have registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), Section 281 (rash driving), Section 125B (acts endangering life or personal safety of others), and Section 238 (causing disappearance of evidence or giving false information to screen an offender).

The luxury car and the motorcycle involved in the collision have been seized, and a forensic examination of the accident site has been conducted.
