According to the police, Gangpreet’s father, identified as Javinder Singh, served as a director of Nulife Hospital and Maternity Centre in GTB Nagar. The police are considering this a possible reason for taking the injured couple to this hospital, despite it being far from the accident site.

Earlier today, the Delhi Police arrested Gaganpreet after an FIR was filed against her by the victim’s wife.

Navjot Singh (52), Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, succumbed to his injuries, while his wife suffered severe injuries after a BMW allegedly hit his motorcycle near Delhi Cantonment metro station on Ring Road on Sunday.

Police said the collision occurred around midday, when they received multiple calls about a traffic jam. On reaching the spot, officers found the BMW lying on its side and the motorcycle near the divider. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the luxury car, driven by a woman, had rammed into the motorcycle from behind. Singh was riding the bike with his wife seated behind him.

After the crash, the woman driver and her husband, who was also in the car, transported the injured couple not to the nearest facility but to Nuelife Hospital in GTB Nagar, about 17 km away, police said. Doctors later declared Singh dead, while his wife remains under treatment.

The BMW driver and her husband, residents of Gurugram, also sustained injuries in the accident and are currently admitted to the hospital.

Meanwhile, in the FIR, the victim’s wife had alleged that Gaganpreet deliberately avoided taking her injured husband to the nearest hospital despite her repeated requests.

“I repeatedly requested the lady (accused) to take my husband to the nearest hospital, my husband needs immediate first aid. But she deliberately did not take my husband to the nearest hospital and instead took him to a faraway hospital known to them. My husband had to wait too long on a stretcher there,” Singh’s wife stated in her complaint.

The couple’s son, Navnoor Singh also echoed similar sentiments, saying that his father’s life could have been saved had he been taken to a nearby hospital, rather than a facility nearly 20 km away.

“I got a call from a family friend who told me about the accident and that my parents are admitted to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar,” he told news agency ANI.

“The accident happened at nearly 1.30 pm, a woman driving a BMW hit my parents’ motorcycle,” he said.

“There was definitely something wrong, they were taken to a hospital 20 km away, which had no facilities. My father was declared dead at the hospital, but people there said that death instantly after an accident is very rare,” he alleged.

He also alleged the hospital staff did not cooperate and treated his injured mother in one of the lobbies on the premises.

Meanwhile, the police have seized both vehicles, and the crime team has examined the accident site.

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was also called to investigate.
