A Dalit engineer at the electricity department office in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, was attacked inside his office cabin by a BJP worker, with the assault captured on video. The attacker reportedly struck the engineer’s head with a shoe, punched him, and verbally abused him using caste-based insults.
According to the engineer’s complaint, around 20 to 25 men led by Munna Bahadur Singh, a former BJP mandal president, stormed his office without any clear reason and began assaulting him.

The engineer said other staff members eventually intervened and stopped the attack. He also added that the office CCTV was not working, and the assault was recorded by another staff member. After the incident, the engineer went for a medical check-up and filed a police complaint, NDTV reported.
Meanwhile, Singh also sought medical treatment at the district hospital, claiming injuries from an attack by the engineer and his colleagues.
He alleged that he and a group of 10-12 BJP workers had gone to the electricity office to raise concerns about power outages in nearby villages. According to him, the engineer abused them and refused to hear their grievances, which led to a physical altercation. Munna Singh showed bandages on his body and said the engineer and his staff assaulted them with sharp weapons.
The engineer denied Singh’s allegations, saying he was unaware of any such incident.
Ballia Assistant Superintendent of Police Kripa Shankar confirmed that a case has been registered following the complaint. The police have begun legal proceedings and deployed teams to arrest the accused. Officers remain present at the electricity department office to maintain order.
