Chaos during idol immersion

The Cuttack immersion violence occurred during the late-night Durga Puja idol immersion procession in the Dargha Bazaar area, starting between 1:30 am and 2 am on the night of 4-5 October 2025. The clashes erupted after some locals objected to the loud music played by the Jhanjirimangala Bhagabat Puja Committee procession.

The situation quickly escalated when stones and glass bottles were hurled from rooftops, resulting in injuries to at least 25 people, including Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo. Several vehicles, motorcycles, and roadside stalls were damaged amid the chaos.

Curfew imposed, internet suspended

In response to the violence, the Odisha government imposed a curfew in 13 police-station areas of Cuttack, suspended internet services, and deployed 60 police platoons along with eight paramilitary companies to restore law and order.
