A major corruption case has surfaced in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, after a bill of Rs 4,000 was issued for photocopying just two pages in Kudri Gram Panchayat of Jaisinghnagar Panchayat Samiti, located in the Shahdol Zila Parishad. The fraudulent bill, allegedly passed with the collusion of the Sarpanch and the Panchayat Secretary, has now gone viral on social media.

The bill revealed that Rs 4000 was charged by ‘Raj Photo Copy Center and Digital Studio’ for two pages at Rs 2000 per page, despite the usual photocopy cost being Rs 1-2 per page. Though the bill listed other materials, its primary focus was on the photocopy charges, which were officially approved by the Panchayat.

This incident adds to the growing series of corruption cases in Shahdol district, highlighting the misappropriation of funds meant for rural development and impacting services for the common people. Local residents argue that such fake bills underscore the lack of transparency at the Panchayat level.

In response, Shahdol Collector Kedar Singh commented, “There might have been an error in writing the quantity 2000 and the rate Rs 2.” However, his statement failed to appease the public. Opposition parties and social activists are calling for a thorough investigation. Although the district administration has initiated an inquiry, no definitive action has been taken yet.
