Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday cited the findings of a judicial commission report on the November 2024 Sambhal violence, and said that the incident was “a conspiracy for riot”. He also added that under previous governments led by the Samajwadi Party and Congress, Hindus were deliberately targeted.

“Hindus were targeted under SP, Congress rule; our govt won’t allow demography change,” said the UP Chief Minister.

His remark came hours after a three-member judicial panel investigating the riot submitted a 450-page report to CM Yogi on Thursday.

A three member commission was set up on November 28, 2024, including retired Allahabad High Court judge Devendra Kumar Arora, former IPS officer Arvind Kumar Jain, and ex-IAS officer Amit Mohan Prasad. The members of the committee have paid visit to Sambhal many times since December 1 last year.

“The judicial commission constituted to probe the Sambhal incident has submitted its report to the chief minister,” Principal Secretary (Home), Sanjay Prasad, said.

Speaking about the report, Prasad said earlier,”We can tell more only after studying it. Further action will be taken accordingly. Yes, we have submitted our report to the chief minister. It’s a voluminous report.”

The incident dates back to November 24, 2024, when a clash broke out near the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal during an ASI-monitored survey of the mosque, claiming four lives and injuring several others.
