A family had a close shave after the car they were travelling in plunged into an 11-foot-deep pit in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur, in the early hours of Wednesday. It is believed that the pit was dug by a municipal contractor.
The incident unfolded around 1am when Virendra, a resident of Jukhedi village, was driving his ailing mother to Gangoh for medical treatment. Accompanying him were his wife, children, and brother. As the vehicle travelled along a poorly lit stretch of road, it suddenly fell into a large pit dug in the middle of the road.

They claim the lack of safety measures reflects a pattern of negligence that could have deadly consequences.
