A shocking incident has come to light in Madhepura district, Bihar, where a man was brutally murdered amid a tangled web of family disputes and illicit relationships in which a woman was found to be involved in an affair with her brother-in-law and son-in-law. The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the dark consequences of personal betrayals.

Urmila Devi reported the case at the Murliganj police station, revealing a distressing narrative. She explained that a legal dispute had been ongoing for three years between her son, Jaswant Yadav, and his wife, Punita Devi. During this period, Punita engaged in illicit relationships with her own son-in-law, Amit Kumar, and brother-in-law, Rajesh Yadav, which Jaswant opposed. Frustrated by her husband’s resistance, Punita conspired with her lovers to have him killed.

Further complicating the situation, Urmila Devi accused her daughter-in-law of marrying off her minor daughter, aged 12-13, to her lover Amit Kumar. Additionally, Punita was allegedly pressurising them to transfer one bigha of land to Amit’s name. When Jaswant refused, Punita devised a plan to eliminate him.

On the night of August 17, around 9 pm, Punita, Amit, Rajesh Yadav, and some other associates lured Jaswant out under the pretext of fetching fertiliser. They took him to a field where they brutally slit his throat with a sharp weapon, leaving his blood-soaked body in the field.

The next morning, Jaswant’s body was discovered with a severely cut throat. Police circulated photos and videos of the body to aid identification. Upon receiving the news, the family rushed to the scene, and the body was sent to Madhepura Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.

Jaswant’s cousin, Ramanand Yadav, confirmed the allegations, stating that Punita had long been in a relationship with Amit. Yadav said that to conceal this affair, she married off her minor daughter to Amit and distanced herself from Jaswant, opting to live in a rented house with Amit and her daughter.

Murliganj police station in-charge, Ajit Kumar, reported that an FIR had been lodged following the complaint from the deceased’s mother. The police have since arrested Punita, Rajesh Yadav, and another associate, with ongoing raids to apprehend the remaining suspects.
