With Jogbani-Danapur, Bihar’s Vande Bharat tally rises from 13 to 14.

For the first time, Araria’s Jogbani will be on India’s Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat maps as two new-age trains will start from the station on September 15. Jogbani, currently served by only a handful of express trains, will see a Vande Bharat—connecting Danapur in Patna— for the first time and an Amrit Bharat—to Erode in Tamil Nadu.

Apart from two trains for Jogbani, the state will get another Amrit Bharat train between Saharsa and Chehharta in Amritsar from September 15, officials aware of the details told News18.

Jogbani In Focus, Enhancing Connectivity to Nepal

Araria’s Jogbani railway station is just 300 meters from Biratnagar Customs Office in Nepal. Currently, two trains connect Patna’s Danapur and Jogbani—Seemanchal Express, starting from Delhi, and one direct train between the two stations, Danapur-Jogbani Intercity Express.

“The Vande Bharat will be faster than the two express trains. One direct faster train will be beneficial for tourists, businesses and also the people of Bihar who commute between the two regions,” a Railway Ministry official told News18.

Bihar Connected by 10 of 11 Amrit Bharat Trains

Currently, nine Amrit Bharat trains are operational across India. With the two trains, the total number of Amrit Bharats will touch 11, while those serving Bihar will be 10. Only one Amrit Bharat—Malda-Bengaluru—does not touch Bihar.

Five of these trains connect parts of Bihar to Delhi—one each from Darbhanga, Rajendra Nagar (Patna), Bapudham Motihari, Sitamarhi and Gaya.

The Amrit Bharat trains from Sitamarhi and Gaya were started last month, while those from Rajendra Nagar (Patna) and Bapudham Motihari were started in July. The one from Darbhanga was among the first Amrit Bharat trains started in 2023.

The Amrit Bharat trains also connect Mumbai-Saharsa since April and Darbhanga-Lucknow since July. The Amrit Bharat between Malda Town and Lucknow, started in July, serves Bhagalpur.

14 Vande Bharats to Serve Bihar

With Jogbani-Danapur, Bihar’s Vande Bharat tally rises from 13 to 14. Nine of 14 Vande Bharat trains connect capital city Patna with Jogbani, Ranchi, Howrah, New Jalpaiguri, Lucknow, and Gorakhpur. Three trains run between Patna and Tatanagar.

Bihar is also connected with Vande Bharat on Ranchi-Varanasi, Deoghar-Varanasi, Howrah-New Jalpaiguri, Howrah-Gaya, and Howrah-Bhagalpur routes.

Last month, News18 had reported that a new Vande Bharat is expected between Purnia-Patna. However, the same train will now go up to Araria’s Jogbani with Purnia only being a stoppage, ministry officials confirmed to News18.

Given the series of new-age trains Bihar received this year, rail connectivity in the state is set for a significant boost with improved passenger convenience, travel efficiency, and affordable long-distance options for residents.

The term of the Bihar assembly ends in November, and the state has to go to polls this year.
