Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the state government has unveiled a significant initiative for the youth. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has introduced a new scheme for unemployed graduates, offering Rs. 1,000 per month to those aged 20 to 25 who are neither employed nor self-employed. This allowance will be provided for up to two years.

The announcement was shared by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on X. He emphasised that since the government was formed in November 2005, prioritising employment for youth has been a key focus. The state aims to provide jobs to 10 million youth within the next five years, with continuous efforts and skill development training underway.

Which Students Will Benefit Most?

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar explained that the state government believes youth must be self-reliant during their studies or training to prepare effectively for jobs and competitive exams. Reflecting this vision, the existing Chief Minister’s Nishchay Self-Help Allowance Scheme has been expanded.

Earlier, the scheme was limited to unemployed youth who had passed intermediate. Its scope has now been expanded to include graduates in arts, science, and commerce, who will also receive the allowance.

The government said that the scheme is aimed at empowering youth to become self-reliant and capable. The allowance will support their studies, competitive exams, and skill training. Nitish Kumar expressed hope that this aid will help unemployed youth secure their future.

The announcement, which focuses solely on youth benefits, is significant as it comes in an election year. While several political experts view it as an attempt to woo young voters, Nitish Kumar insists it is part of the government’s broader vision to make Bihar self-reliant and employment-oriented.
