The Bihar Congress unit on Friday initiated an internal inquiry into a controversial AI-generated video posted on social media, which depicted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, Hiraben Modi.

The move comes amid widespread backlash from the BJP, which called the act “disgusting” and an insult to all mothers and sisters of the country.

Top Congress sources said the party will first determine who was responsible for sharing the content before taking further action.

The video, shared without naming anyone, carried a caption in Hindi that translates to: “‘Ma’ appears in Sahab’s dreams. Watch the interesting dialogue.”

In the video, a character resembling PM Modi is seen preparing for bed, saying: “I’m done with today’s ‘vote chori’, let’s get a good night’s sleep now.”

As he sleeps, a woman resembling his mother appears in his dream and scolds him for using her name for political gain. The woman then asks, “How far are you willing to fall when it comes to politics?” which startles the character awake.

The BJP swiftly condemned the video.

The official BJP Twitter handle tweeted: “The first Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi’s late mother was abused from the Congress-RJD platform. Now, a video of their mother is being made to insult her. Have some shame, Congress people, how much lower will you stoop?”

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey described the video as reflecting a “deplorable mindset,” adding, “Leave aside the Prime Minister’s mother. A man from a poor village background becoming Prime Minister may be against Western culture, but here he has been insulted throughout his life — once branded a merchant of death, and now subjected to the lowest depths of abuse.”

National BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also targeted Congress, alleging that the video insults women at the behest of Rahul Gandhi.

He warned that the people of Bihar would give a “befitting response” to such acts in the upcoming Assembly elections.

BJP MP Anurag Thakur also slammed the Congress over the AI-generated video mocking PM Modi’s late mother.

“RJD and Congress have shown the depths to which politics can sink. To engage in mudslinging and insult someone’s mother — especially one who has passed away — is shameful. People of Bihar are well aware that those who stoop to such acts are aligned with the state opposition and Congress. When individuals from this land abuse the mother of PM Modi, it reflects poorly on their political ethics,” he said.

The controversy follows earlier incidents during Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ in Darbhanga, where abusive slogans targeting PM Modi’s mother were reportedly chanted from a Congress-RJD stage.
