The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has announced a statewide bandh in Bihar on Thursday in response to the alleged abusive language used against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a rally by the Opposition in Darbhanga.

The state-wide protest is scheduled to last five hours from 7am to 12 noon, confirmed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Bihar state chief Dilip Jaiswal.

During the five-hour bandh, essential services, including emergency medical care and railway operations, will continue to function normally.

Further, schools, offices, and transport department will face disruptions due to the protest.

The protest will be spearheaded by BJP Mahila Morcha, the party’s women’s wing, which plans to organize demonstrations across the state as part of the agitation.

According to a report in Oneindia, a Chakka Jam protest will be led by women’s groups. The report mentioned that the protest will remain peaceful but widespread, with road blockades in major towns and highways.

The report mentioned that women’s groups across the state will mobilise to highlight issues such as inflation, safety and social justice concerns, livelihood challenges affecting rural and urban households.

PM Modi Abuse Row

The abuse row stems from the Voter Adhikar Yatra organized by the opposition alliance in Darbhanga last week, during which offensive language was used targeting the Prime Minister and his mother. The remarks drew strong condemnation from NDA leaders.

Janata Dal (United) leader Umesh Kushwaha criticized the opposition’s conduct, stating, “During the opposition’s rally in Darbhanga, abusive words were used against Prime Minister Modi and his mother. This is wrong, both morally and politically.”

“Using such language is highly inappropriate, and so far, the Mahagathbandhan leaders have not apologised. This shows how arrogant they are,” he said.

Reacting to the incident, Prime Minister Modi also made a strong statement during a public address on Tuesday, indirectly targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav. Without naming them, he referred to them as “naamdaar,” a term he uses to describe dynastic politicians, and said they could never relate to the hardships of ordinary citizens.

“The struggles [Tapasya] of a poor mother, the suffering of her son — these young princes born into royal families cannot understand, ” the PM said.

“These ‘naamdaar’ people were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. The power of the country and Bihar seems like an inheritance of their family to them,” PM Modi said.

As political tensions rise, the NDA’s bandh call signals a sharpening of the confrontation between the ruling coalition and the opposition INDIA bloc in the run-up to the next electoral showdown in Bihar.
