Ghaziabad Police have arrested Bhojpuri actor, IPL commentator, and YouTuber Mani Meraj, with millions of followers, from Patna, Bihar, after a complaint filed on September 18 by a woman YouTuber, alleging rape, forced religious conversion, abortion, and fraud.

Meraj was brought to Ghaziabad following the police’s acquisition of a transit remand.

The woman YouTuber alleged that Meraj befriended her under a false identity, drugged her, and repeatedly raped her under the pretext of marriage.

She further alleged that the accused forced her into unnatural sexual acts, pressured her to change her religion, and compelled her to undergo an abortion. She also claimed that he and his family coerced her into eating beef and reciting the kalma (Islamic creed), India Today reported.

According to her, the alleged abuse had been ongoing for the past three years, and she said that the accused also defrauded her of several lakh rupees.

Police investigation revealed that Mani Meraj previously worked as a butcher before rising to fame on social media with his comedy videos, amassing millions of followers. Building on his online popularity, he went on to act in Bhojpuri films, including a recent release, and also served as a Bhojpuri commentator for IPL matches on Jio TV.

“This mistake was made by me. I trusted someone like that. I appeal for forgiveness and demand the strictest punishment against Mani Meraj,” the complainant said.

Hindu Raksha Dal leader Pinky Chaudhary said, “A case has been filed against him. We will continue our fight against such people to get justice for our sisters and daughters. Our sister will now work to enlighten other young Hindu girls about love jihad. If a girl gets carried away by someone else’s behaviour, she should be forgiven and taught what’s right and wrong so that others can be saved from falling into the same trap.”

Confirming the arrest, ACP of Indirapuram, Abhishek Srivastava, stated, “After a thorough investigation by the Khoda police team, the accused was apprehended in Patna. Further proceedings are in progress.” Ghaziabad police are currently questioning him to investigate the alleged “love jihad” angle in the case.
