At Least Nine Killed As Arch Collapses At North Chennai Thermal Power Station

Nine migrant labourers from northern states were killed in a tragic incident at the Ennore Thermal Power Plant in Tiruvallur district after scaffolding collapsed during construction work.
According to reports, four workers died instantly at the site, while five others succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to Stanley Hospital.

Several others who sustained grievous injuries are undergoing intensive treatment, hospital officials said.

The victims were engaged in ongoing construction activities at the power plant when the scaffolding structure suddenly collapsed, trapping them underneath.
“A tragic accident occurred at the North Chennai Thermal Power Station construction site today. Preliminary reports state one worker sustained grievous injuries, while more than 10 others are to have been seriously hurt in the collapse incident. The victims have been rushed to Stanley Government Hospital in North Chennai. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. Rescue operations are ongoing, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident,” the Avadi Police Commissionerate said in a statement.
Emergency services and rescue teams were immediately deployed to the spot.
