The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly has become the first state in the country to pass a resolution welcoming the next-generation GST reforms. The Assembly congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the landmark decision of the 56th GST Council on GST rate rationalisation.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu hailed the reforms as a visionary step that will simplify the tax structure, reduce compliance burdens on businesses, enhance transparency, and directly benefit the common man.

The Assembly, in a unanimous decision, expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for introducing reforms that strengthen the economy and improve citizen welfare. It also extended congratulations to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her role in shaping GST 2.0 and ensuring national-level consensus.

Speaking in the Assembly, Naidu highlighted that the reform would boost consumption, drive investment, and support labour-intensive sectors.

He said, “The changes will strengthen cooperative federalism, promote ease and speed of doing business, and improve the purchasing capacity of people. According to him, these measures would not only help Indian companies grow but also encourage a Swadeshi consumption pattern, enabling Indian brands to achieve global recognition.”

Naidu further explained that the reforms will reduce compliance burdens on businesses, simplify taxation, and bring greater transparency to the system. He underlined that this historic step would put the economy on a sustained growth trajectory and benefit the common man directly.

He said, “Now there are only two slabs, 5% and 18%. I am once again saying that 140 crore people will benefit. The Centre called it a Diwali bonus, but for us it will come before Dussehra. From the 22nd onwards, the poor will have the opportunity to celebrate Dussehra, Diwali and Sankranti grandly. Due to GST reforms, items that earlier attracted 12% tax have come down to zero, and 90% of goods that were under the 28% slab have now been reduced to 18%.”

The Chief Minister also presented a detailed analysis of the GST reforms through a PowerPoint presentation in the Assembly, explaining their impact on goods, businesses, and the broader economy. The House unanimously extended full support for the successful implementation of the reforms for the greater good of the people and the nation.

Naidu also stated that a cabinet sub-committee will be appointed to finalise the plan of action and create awareness among the people about the GST reforms.
