An 11-year-old Class VI student died of cardiac arrest while playing at her school in Betma, Indore district, on Wednesday. According to the witnesses, the girl was playing with friends during the sports class when she died. She began to feel fatigued, sat down on the ground, and collapsed moments later.

After this, the teachers were informed immediately, and the school’s sports instructor rushed her to Betma hospital. From there, she was referred to Choithram Hospital in Indore, where doctors confirmed she suffered a cardiac arrest.

The doctors tried to revive her, but she was declared dead at around 5 pm, the Times of India reported.

Anil Kumar Lakhwani, deputy director, health services at Choithram Hospital, said, “When she was brought to the hospital, she had already died. Doctors tried to revive the girl, but she could not be saved. Attendants and family said that she collapsed while at school and was brought to the hospital. We informed the police about the incident.”

After her death, the family took her body to the district hospital, where a post-mortem was conducted before it was handed back to them.

According to neighbour Subhash Choudhary, Lakshita’s father, Dilip Patel, works with a private company, and her mother is a homemaker. Her elder brother lives with relatives in Bijalpur.

The sudden death of the young student has shocked her schoolmates and teachers, while her family and friends are struggling to cope with the tragedy.

“There was no family history of heart-related issues, but Lakshita’s weight was unusually high compared to her age. She weighed 74 kg. It could have been a contributing factor to the heart-related issue,” said Choudhary.
