“We a e so g ateful fo all the suppo t we have had ove this t yi g time a d we a e ve y hopeful fo he futu e bei g what she wa ts it to be.”

He added: “We a e so p oud of ou daughte a d love he so much. The way she has co ducted he self th ough ma y t aumatic health issues is a lesso to us all.

“We would equest p ivacy fo the comi g mo ths, but tha ks o ce agai fo the love a d co ce show by so ma y people.”

Ca ott, whose eal ame is Robe t Davis, became a household ame i the 1970s tha ks to his sta d-up comedy a d ovelty so gs.

I a stateme t o I stag am o Tuesday, Davis explai ed: “A yea -a d-a-half ago I was diag osed with stage fou b east ca ce , which has metastasised to my bo es.

“Specifically to my spi e, ight hip, a d my ibs. The ca ce is i cu able, a d too late fo chemo.

“The i itial lump that I felt, was ‘t a ‘lump’ as such; athe a ki d of ha d spot. Really ti y. I almost did ‘t bothe getti g it checked. So I guess I’m sayi g do ‘t ig o e a ythi g – get eve ythi g checked out.”

She added: “As of ow, I’m t yi g to live out whateve might be left of my life i as fu a way as I possibly ca … I’m ot sca ed of whateve comes ext. I’m at peace with it.”
